„To the Powder Maker“

Tracing the Tradition of the Powder Maker

The local history museum offers a glimpse into the history of Elsbeth. Spread over three floors, visitors can view thousands of exhibits ranging from prehistoric times (fossils) to the present day. The museum focuses on the former gunpowder production, which ceased in 1918, as well as on the history and natural history of Elsbeth and the working life of farmers in years past.

The museum also features a so-called „village street,“ which provides a historical overview of the former artisan workshops in Elsbethen. Visitors can see a general store, a watchmaker’s shop, a tailor’s shop, a gunpowder maker’s workshop, a potter’s studio, a bookbindery, and an old classroom.
